Happy Tails Rescue, Inc.
Happy Tails Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 NC non-profit organization whose main goal is to save as many canines as possible from abusive, harmful, and neglectful situations. On this site are the dogs we have saved and are currently up for adoption with an approved adoption application. Every one of these dogs has a story to tell. They are searching for their forever home; maybe it could be with you! All our dogs are up to date on their shots, have been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, and heart worm tested (as well as on monthly prevention) if they have tested positive they have been through their treatment. If you see one of our precious babies that you are interested in, please feel free to contact us.
One Hand, One Paw, One Voice!
The adoption process- Please read before filling out an application.
What are our adoption fees?
Our adoption fees are $200-$500 depending on the dog in question. (All fees are subject to change at the discretion of the director.)
We base our fees on our average cost per dog. This includes spay/neuter, microchipping, heart worm test, age appropriate shots, and one months heart worm prevention. Also in the event the dog is heart worm positive we put them through the treatment. Your new family member will come with a welcome packet that includes their vet records and chipping information as well as new owner products such as harness, poop scoop bags/case, toys and treats.
In addition to our veterinary costs we also have daily upkeep expenses such as supplies, medications, and grooming. At times some of the items on this list may be donated to us which is always appreciated. Your fee helps up to cover our costs, plus allows us to help with medical cases as well, which can result in veterinary bills in the thousands just for one pup. Regardless of the amount spent on medical care for your new baby, their adoption fee will adhere to the above schedule.
What is the application process?
HAPPY TAILS RESCUE, INC. USES THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES WHEN EVALUATING AN APPLICATION:
PLEASE READ THROUGHLY AND DO NOT PROCEED TO APPLICATION IF THESE GUIDELINES DO NOT FIT YOU OR YOUR SITUATION.
-All pets previous or current must have been or will be spayed or neutered.
-All pets must be up to date on shots (rabies and parvo/distemper).
-All pets must be on, and kept on, heart worm prevention along with the required yearly test.
-CALL YOUR VET AFTER COMPLETION OF APPLICATION TO MAKE THEM AWARE SOMEONE WILL BE CALLING FOR VERIFICATION. **If it has been less than 5 years that you have had a dog in your home we still need your veterinarian information, if over 5 years we do not.**
-Some dogs will require a fenced yard, if this is the case exceptions will not be made. This is in place to keep the dog safe and ensure its safety.
-We generally do not adopt puppies out to homes that have children under 10 years of age, but this is at the discretion of our director. No adoptions to homes with children under 7.
-Generally, dogs who are large and active will not be adopted out to apartment or condo situations, final decision is at the discretion of our director.
-Generally we do not adopt puppies/dogs under 5 years old to applicants who are older than 65 yrs of age. Final decision is at the discretion of the director.
-All pets living in the house must be listed on the application even if they are not owned by the applicant.
-The person who is going to be legally responsible for the adopted dog must make the application in their own name.
**NOTE: We generally do not adopt outside of a 75 mile radius of our location but have been known to make exceptions if it is the perfect fit for the dog** (This is at the discretion of the director.)
**IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A PUPPY UNDER THE AGE OF 1 YEAR OLD PLEASE LET US KNOW IF PARVO HAS EVER BEEN IN YOUR HOME OR YARD AREA** **THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT PARVO CAN LIVE FOR UP TO 10 YEARS IN THE YARD ETC AND PUPPIES UNDER A YEAR OLD WITHOUT THE COMPLETED SERIES OF SHOTS ARE SUCCEPTABLE TO CONTRACTING THIS DEADLY DISEASE**
-We schedule meet and greets on approved applications. In the event that there is more than one approved application, (we do NOT use the first come first serve option, we use the choice of the best fit for that particular dog and the needs to of that dog to be met properly)
-We check all veterinary references, as well as personal references when no vet is necessary and the processing can take time as we are all volunteers with full time jobs and lots of fur babies at home as well as families to also take care of, so please be patient with us!
Our number one priory is making sure we adopt our babies to safe and loving FOREVER homes.
Please be aware that submitting an application DOES NOT secure a dog for adoption, or put one on hold.
