Our "RIP" Tails
In May 2012 LaDonna took in Skeeter a nine year old Yorkie who was in need of a home because his owner had dementia and could not take care of him anymore. She was told that Skeeter had arthritis and was very overweight. When she got him home she noticed that he was needing to go to the bathroom every few minutes and quite frequently would pee himslef before he could make it outside. Assuming Skeeter had a urinary tract infection she took him the vet and was shocked to learn that the poor baby had three huge stones in his bladder and two big stones blocking his urethra which is what has caused his frequent elimination. She was also told that Skeeter has been in this condition for quite some time for the stones to be as large as they were and that his poor body has become acclimated to the pain therefore; he is very uncomfortable. On top of all of those things his heart and spleen were enlarged and he had a heart murmur. They had to do test to see if there was any chance he could survive surgery and decided it was ok to go ahead with the surgery (with risk) So Skeeter had his surgery & seemed to be doing a little better until he took another turn for the worse. The poor baby had just been threw so much and just couldn't handle anymore so LaDonna held him as he crossed the bridge to no more pain and suffering. RIP Lil Skeeter angel, never forgotten!! Until we meet again.
We rescued Sasha from CCAC on September 7, 2012. She was listed as Pregnant & Urgent. As of course we would all assume by looking at her. When we got her to her vet appointment we were very saddened to find out she was not pregnant at all. She in fact had Liver Cancer which was causing her to build up fluid that bad. All the sores and swelling was from the cancer which was already to far progressed to do anything for her. So LaDonna and Crystal held this sweet, loving girl as she crossed the bridge to no more pain and suffering. RIP Sweet baby, we will never forget you sweet angel!! Until we meet again ♥
On August 11, 2012 we had the pleasure of fostering this precious 13 year old little girl named Lil Mama and her puppies for a short time. During that short time we fell in love with this strong sweet girl. LaDonna and Crystal were with her, comforting and loving her until she crossed the bridge. She will always have a special place in our hearts and will never be forgotten! Until we meet again, RIP Sweet Angel ♥
This is what was posted by the Animal Contol: Bella was surrendered by her owner on Friday afternoon. She was 13 years old and had seven new born puppies. Her owners didn’t show any kind of compassion. After many phone calls and much effort arrangements were made for Bella to go into a foster home Saturday morning with five of her puppies (due to poor care by the owner two puppies had already passed away by then.) At 12pm two more puppies died. She was taken to a vet office where she was diagnosed with a maggot infestation and other complication as well as her puppies. Right there two more puppies died. The doctor informed us that there was no way to save her and she needed to be euthanized. Bella passed away and there was only one puppy left to save. Monday morning he also passed away. Bella is just one example of what happens around us. Bella and her puppies were members of the community. They were not just dogs they are the lives that we are working diligently to save on a daily basis.!!! Please don’t wait 13 years to SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PET and leave them in deplorable conditions. Please be a responsible pet owner. Show the compassion and care for your animal that it shows you. Ask for help. Inform yourself. We are a kill shelter with only 26 rooms for dogs. Our facility doesn’t have fancy beds and lovely accommodations. When you surrender your pet you surrender a life! We do everything humanly possible to not euthanize animals and it has been almost a year since we have had to resort to such practices. But we cannot continue to have the success that we have if owners are throwing their responsibility on us. We understand that owners are now more comfortable surrendering their pet to us. But surrender is not the solution. We are asking the community to help be part of the solution and not the problem. Care for your pets. If you can’t find a family member or friend who can then contact a no kill shelter for their help. The county shelter should be your last option. Thank you !!

Watson was Great Dane mix that was wondering around a gas station. No one could find any owners so we picked him up. He seemed to have had a problem with his right rear leg so we took him to the vet to have it looked at. After several Xrays she determined that he had an old injury that had not be treated and so it had caused arthritis to set into the hip joint. This caused the whole joint to diminish which caused strain on the whole hip all together. The vet said that he was in a great deal of pain and that there really wasn't anything that could be done to repair it. She said that medication could be given to make some of the pain go away but that it would never be enough. She said that eventually the other leg would do the samething and as soon as he started putting on a healthy amount of weight that his hip would collapse. It was agreed that the most humane thing to do was to let him go to the bridge. On January 3, 2014 Watson crossed the rainbow bridge. He was such a good boy and we are so glad that he atleast got to spend a few days knowing what love was. Rest in peace little one, until we see you again! You will be greatly missed.
